Making my own lunch!

I work in a hospital where I have access to 3 cafeterias, a McDonald's, Subway, and Backyard Burgers. With all of that why would I make my lunch? To make it even easier, when I eat in the cafeteria all I have to do is swipe my ID and the cost is subtracted from my check at the end of the month. Up until about 3 months ago, I could eat in the cafeteria for less than $4.00. Now for the cost has risen (with everything else) to almost $6.00.
For the most part, I hate a brown bag lunch, cold sandwich, microwave dinners, etc. My goal for the new year is to bring my lunch one day a week. Well, so far so good. I brought leftovers on Tuesday. My goal is that when I get in the habit of once a week I can increase it to twice a week.

I think it's great that you are making your own lunch. My husband hated to take his lunch but was amazed at how much we saved and the weight that he lost from eating leftovers or sandwiches.

That's a great idea. I seam to do good at taking my lunch one week and then the next not take it at all. Maybe I will have to plan to take so many lunches a week.

Good for you :) It is hard to brown bag it when you have easy access to all that food!

you really will save money- i know that for a fact! subway is a healthful place to eat so maybe you can use that as a reward for bringing your food on the other days. maybe make a "deli tray " of sorts instead of a sandwich. maybe lotsa finger foods will spice it up a bit :) let us know!

Good for you!! I keep telling myself that I need to start taking my lunch to work. Yet, I never did til I had to stay with my parents when I fell and hurt my leg. Now, I take a Slim Fast to work. The sad thing is that they are not working, but they are good.

When I worked at the hospital here, I loved the idea of showing my ID and I could get lunch, goodies from the gift shop on break....but at check time it was a downer. Now I work for our County and I take cans of cheap/free soups or we do pot lucks and share food, especially on Thursdays, when we work late. We have found when 1 of us is short on money someone else brings potluck & you do a different day/week. The girls at work, help me from getting lunches out, because I have to plan!

When I used to work - before I moved away from Omaha and to Indianapolis - I'd have stashes of the Starkist Tuna Pouches at my desk. Then I'd just bring a tortilla into work...

For the most part, and for the average person, bringing in lunch can save money.
